This is the number one question I get. The two most expensive parts of any trip are the plane tickets and hotel accommodations. Airfare can take up a chunk of the travel budget if you are not careful. It is important to be proactive and plan months before the travel date. Here are my tips on how to buy cheap plane tickets that won’t break the bank.
Google Flights
This is one of the best kept secrets! Google has a great search tool that will allow you to not only receive alerts of when flights decrease in price, but it will also show you the cheapest day to flight in the month. Being flexible on dates is THE best way to shave a buck or two. If at all possible, look at flying the week before or after the initial date you want. Also, flying not on major holidays will save you lots of money as well.

Simply put in your location and destination and choose a range of dates. Google will show you the approximate price to fly during those dates. You can also toggle “Track Prices”, and you will receive an email each time the price increases or decreases. This feature makes it easy to jump on some great deals.

The Price Graph is also a great tool in showing you the best dates to buying cheap plane tickets for your travel dates. For this particular time period, actually flying out on a Thursday and returning on a Saturday slashes the price in half. Hence why being flexible is key!
